What we will do

Want to experience the hit Netflix series "Midnight Diners:Tokyo Stories" in real life? Then this Izakaya experience is the best way to see them all and live the true local experience in Tokyo.

Kichijoji is widely known as one of the best places to live in Tokyo, but many don’t know of its local reputation for eclectic little bars and gastropubs. Some are so off-the-grid that even Google Maps doesn’t know of their existence! Most of these tiny bars are located in Harmonica Yokocho (or Harmonica Alley), which started as a flea market after World War II. Now, Kichijoji and Harmonica Yokocho are home to 1950s themed pubs, record-scratching bartenders, horse meat cuisine, and even a bar where the staff drink with you! Bar hopping in Harmonica Yokocho is for sure the best way to explore the winding maze of historic pubs and eateries in Kichijoji.

Each Harmonica Yokocho bar only seats a few people, with some of the smallest seating only seven. No sooner will you have sat down and ordered a drink than you’ll be drawn into the exuberant atmosphere, conversing with talkative locals. Whether or not you speak Japanese, Harmonica Yokocho is the perfect place to strike up a conversation with your neighbors at the bar counter, because even if you don’t know Japanese, our bar hopping tour guide is happy to interpret. Soon, you’ll be cracking jokes and saying “kampai!” like a local.

The trilingual tour guide is something of a local celebrity; every few minutes, somebody recognizes him and calls out his name or claps him on the back. Having lived in Kichijoji for the past couple of years and gotten to know the owners of bartenders of some of the most eccentric and friendly bars in Tokyo, he’s the perfect tour guide to take you bar hopping in Tokyo’s most livable neighborhood, Kichijoji.

My Name is Alejandro. I'm originally from the Bay Area(San Jose!). I came to Japan in 2012 to study Japanese. I loved everything that Japan had to offered, so I knew I wanted to come back again soon. After graduating from Chico State, working at Google for a year, I decided to make my return to Japan in 2015 and haven't looked back.

I wanted to provide unforgettable experiences that no other guidebook or website can tell you, so I made my own page called "Livguide". Our motto is “Come as a foreigner, leave as a local”.

I love to travel, meet new people, and find the best-hidden gems around the world. I have a lot of knowledge on Tokyo's nightlife as I run bar hopping tours. I've hosted over 1000 guests in the year that I started my tours and everyone leaves with unforgettable memories. I also run my own Social media page for Japan nightlife as well.

I'm not difficult to talk to and pretty open to anything, just expect the unexpected when you hang out with me That means: we could be singing Karaoke all night, go to Tokyo biggest night club or get ramen at 5 am in the morning(literally one of the best food to have at that hour).

So come out and lets have some drinks! Kampai!

Where we will meet

We will be meeting at Kichijoji station park exit. Just down the stairs outside of the station next to a street filled with streetlights. There is a Mcdonalds nearby as well to make it easier to spot. I will send a message prior to updated meeting points.

What I will provide

The first two rounds of drinks! (Alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages like Japanese cocktails and soft drinks are available.)

Insider info about the local Tokyo nightlife scene and bar hopping in Kichijoji’s Harmonica Yokocho.

Some izakaya dishes to try.

What to bring

Guest should bring cameras for the pics they’ll be taking along the way!

Also bring extra cash for any extra drinks or snacks you would like to try. On average drinks cost about 500 yen(5 USD) each!

The minimum drinking age is 20 years in Japan, so this bar hopping tour is only available for those who are 20 years of age or older.

Maximum of five participants, as the bars are quite small and cannot accommodate large groups.

Dinner (food is optional). Each person must pay for themselves, with tabehoudai all-you-can-eat available for around 1500 yen per person.

We joined Alejandro's tour to celebrate my birthday in Tokyo. You'll meet curious characters at some of the cosiest bars you've ever seen, party with locals, and experience an authentic slice of Tokyo's quirky nightlife. Alejandro delivered a night that would have been impossible to organise by ourselves. Highly recommended.

We had such an amazing night with Alejandro! He took us to see the local night life of tokyo, taught us about Japanese traditional drinks and food and introduced us to cool local people. If you are looking to get a crazy night and a way to meet other travelers this is the perfect option for you.
